After growing up in Laurens, SC, Susan received her BS in Biology from Wofford College and her M.Ed. from Clemson University. As a participant in the Master Beekeeping Program for SC, she received her Journeyman Certification last year and she is completing her Master Beekeeping Certification through Cornell University. She is a newly elected SCBA board member and serves on the Board of Directors for the Charleston Area Beekeeping Association where she has previously instructed at their Certified Beekeeping Class, SCBA Journeyman Class, and the 2021 SCBA Summer Conference. She has actively mentored beekeepers for the past few years and enjoys sharing the love of beekeeping with others. Most recently, she is assisting with the hands-on beekeeping training of students with the College of Charleston’s Graduate School of Environmental and Sustainability Studies/Sustainable Agriculture Program. Susan has a love of talking (and talking and talking) about bees, beekeeping, and the importance of all pollinators. She frequently speaks on these topics at many community organizations and schools. While not talking or reading about bees, she enjoys her active outdoor lifestyle with her husband Taylor, son Matthew (13), and daughter CeCe (11) in Charleston.
